I spent the first two days in India stuck at the Tagore International House. I couldn’t leave for two reasons, first there is civil unrest in the city and a bandh (a complete halt of public transportation, shops, and activities) was called, and secondly I had no transportation and no where to go. The Tagore International House is my dorm, and it’s not like any other dorm I’ve stayed in.
I share a room which is about the same size of a regular dorm room. It’s not too small and it’s quite plain but i don’t mind too much.

The hallway

Bathroom: I was really worried that it was going to be squat toilets, but it wasn’t. The stalls are more like chambers with two locks. The shower only has one temperature, cold.

I really do enjoy staying at Tagore. My room window faces the backyard so I hear lots of things like the backyard pigs run by and the birds singing. This morning I heard a man singing loudly. Every morning tractors pass by and I can hear the talking of the people riding it.
The only problem is that it is so far from the main campus. The walk to the center of the campus is about 35 mins, and that’s only when I take the shortcut. Luckily I got a bike today so it won’t take that long to get to my classes.
