There was a soccer tournament on campus last week. The SIP (Study in India Program) students decided to sign up for it and we made a team. The last tournament we entered was the cricket tournament and we lost terribly. This time we won the girls tournament. It felt really good to win especially since some rude comments were made towards us in the 2nd match. The whole crowd was cheering for the Indian team and we expected that. What we didn’t expect was the comments made by the commentator and his friends. They were saying in Hindi that we were going to lose and we would get kicked out of the tournament just like the British were kicked out of India. One of our friends understood what they were saying and confronted them. They apologized and were embarrassed. The men didn’t seem too happy for our win but the Indian girls were. After the match was over we threw a victory party and the girls from the team who lost came and partied with us. I enjoyed participating in the tournament and I’m thinking about joining a team for the basketball tournament.
