Phoonk II

I went to go see Phoonk II, a Hindi horror movie. I hadn’t seen Phoonk I, and I hadn’t seen a trailer about it or even knew what it was about. I get scared easily in movies so I don’t watch scary movies but I felt like I had to see a Hindi horror movie, at least just once.

I enjoy the movie theaters in India. There are a few differences though. You have to buy movie tickets in advance because they get sold out quickly, even if it’s not the first two weeks of a movie being out. Also the tickets are assigned seats. You can’t sit in any seat that you want, and the later you buy your tickets, the more likely it will be towards the front. Some theaters have a back row that has really comfortable chairs that recline but they are more expensive.

I went to watch Phoonk II with my friend Sanne and two guys we had met at a club, Navdeep (he’s a Telugu movie star, seriously) and his friend Vinne. They told me that this movie wasn’t going to be as scary as American horror movies, and they were right!

The movie is all in Hindi and there are no subtitles so I’m not sure if I have the plot completely right.

Phoonk II tells the story of a family that moves into a beach front house. There is an evil spirit that lives in the woods next door. This spirit has a doll (I think the doll belongs to the spirit) and the doll begins to follow the little children of the family. The girl takes the doll into the house, even though it creeps her little brother. Then the evil spirit lady starts killing people near them, like their family friend and a guy who works for them as the groundskeeper.

Then I became confused because the mom of the family gets possessed by the spirit. She tries to kill her husband and her kids, she already killed her sister-in-law. Then her husband kills her to save the family. But it’s not a happy ending because the two men lost their wives and the children don’t have a mom anymore.

It wasn’t scary and I ended up laughing way more than screaming.

I did enjoy the little boy’s acting, especially his “I’m very scared” face. I laughed so hard.
